Some spywares will change the settings of internet. The modem may dial out expensive telephone numbers if you connect via dial up service with spywares. The destructive spywares can also change firewall settings. Some types of spywares can intercepts your attempts when you try to remove them from the Windows registry.

There can be many purposes of the creation of these spywares and web traffic statistics can be one of them. These spywares can claim of displaying some ad to your again and again if you experience tons of pop up ads and fake search results. These spywares will count it as interest in the advertised product when some user clicks it accidentally. The spywares are also used to steal affiliate credits. The credit is offered by major shopping sites which direct users to their item pages. The spyware applications can capture the requests of users to view sites like Amazon and eBay.

You can use different ways to detect spyware in your computers. These applications include spybot, Antispyware and spyware removal. All these applications are freely available and work like antivirus software providing active protection to the computers. These applications will also detect cookies to tell you which sites they refer. You should be able to know the removal ways of the spywares once you know about them.
Pop up blocker

Most of the browsers like Internet Explorer 6.0 and Mozilla Firefox 1.0 have features to block websites from appearing in pop up windows. The users can configure this feature all the time. You can also get the information about the pop ups and you can allow windows from the trusted sources.
Disable Active X

There are security setting available in most of the browsers through which you can specify your actions and allow the websites. It is good thing for the users to disable tie Active X as most of the spyware application take the advantage of special code of Windows in Active X. By disabling the Active X you are also disallowing the legal uses for the Active X.
Be suspicious of installing new software

There are always suspicious when any websites asks you to install some new software on you computer. It is better for the users to reject this installation if it is not Flash, Quick Time or latest Java engine. There is vast majority of functionality happening all the time in the browsers which require minimum standard of plug ins. You can go back and download the needed components on your computer from a trustworthy websites at later stages.
Use “X” to close pop up windows

You should be able to spot fake messages into your computer systems coming from pop ups. You can be able to tell the difference when you have come to know about the standard look of your system alerts. Always close the pop up windows from the “X” button and you can also use keystroke combinations to close window which are built into your software and you can find it from the File menu of your browsers.
